Since no one has posted this yet, I thought you might be interested in a song by the real-life Janis Ian called "At Seventeen." The character in the movie is meant to evoke this musician, probably because of this song.

This is really an interesting find. I never knew that Janis Ian existed! It is obvious that they used this real life person to influence the character of Janice Ian in the Mean Girls movie. I found it really odd how much the character in the movie resembles the singer. I noticed that the two stand alike and even hold their face and eyes the same way. I really think that the character in Mean Girls would sing this exact song if she could. Really interesting!
I agree with Amanda. Not that I am into the Mean Girls movie, but I always find it facinating to compare a real life person to a movie adaptation of the person. The two do look similar and I think that it provided a basis for the character and helped propel the movie. It is a very interesting fact and would be interesting to discuss how the two are similar and different and whether certain personality traits were added or left out to create the character in the movie
I think it is really interesting as well that the "real" Janis Ian mentioned how girls USED to make her feel about her body. Now she implies that she is comfortable with herself even though her dark short curly hair hasn't changed. This is pretty interesting when you suggest that the "mean girls" phenomenon only occurs for a short period of time (say high school) and then stops as the girls get older. Even girls who used to be mean girls generally stop being mean girls as they get older. I think it would be interesting to follow a mean girl thoughout these different stages, "pre-mean" "mean" and "post mean" to attempt to get some understanding from the inside of the mean girl.
I am as surprised as everyone else to find out that Janis is real. In the real Janis'intro to her song she talks with a very mellow voice almost like that of Janis in the movie (kinda weird). She said that she tried to straighten her hair to fit in and I think that Janis in the film once tried to fit in back in middle school but after that she decided it wasn't worth it if she had to be someone she wasn't. The singer says "at 17 I learned the truth", I am wondering if this trugth is that girls are mean or that it is not worth trying to be something that you aren't aka plastic.
